Materials Needed

  • 1 x square sheet of square origami paper (e.g. 6 inches [15 cm])
  • Scissors

Instructions

Step 1: Start with the color you want your envelope to be facing down. Arrange your paper to sit like a diamond shape.

Step 2: Fold the bottom point up to meet the top point.

Step 3: Unfold previous step.

Step 4: Fold the left point to meet the right point but only crease in the middle to leave a mark.

Step 5: Unfold previous step.

Step 6: Fold the bottom point up to meet the middle.

Step 7: Fold the bottom edge up along the existing middle horizontal crease line.

Step 8: Fold the left point to meet the right point but only crease in the middle to leave a mark then unfold.

Step 9: Fold the left point towards the right so that it sits past the middle crease (at least 0.60 inches [1.5 cm]) mark you made in step 8.

Step 10: Fold the right point towards the left so that it overlaps the left flap. It is important that you keep it as symmetrical as possible to the left, so that your final envelope looks neater.

Step 11: Fold the same right point back towards the right slightly as shown. Once folded, it's folded edge should align with the small mark in the middle you made in step 8.

Step 12: Open out the little flap you made in step 11 so that it forms a square when flattened.

Step 13: Now, you will form the heart seal. Working on the small square, fold its top point backwards so that it sits inside itself.

Step 14: Carefully cut along the line shown. Note: You only need to cut on the top layer (which you folded down in the previous step.

Step 15: Fold the inner corners of the bottom section behind slightly as shown.

Steps 12 to 15 for folding on origami envelope with heart.

Step 16: Fold both the left and right corners of the square behind slightly as shown.

Step 17: Fold the top point down to meet the bottom, then tuck it into the heart closure. Completed envelope.
