Fall gatherings are all about cozy food, warm colors, and thoughtful details—and a simple napkin fold can help set the tone before guests even take their seats.

This pumpkin napkin folding idea is perfect for anyone looking to add a seasonal touch without a lot of effort.

Even better? It only requires a single paper napkin. No scissors, glue, or twine—just fold and place it on the plate.

This easy DIY tutorial is a great fit for Thanksgiving, Halloween parties, or any casual fall dinner.

Since it uses paper napkins, it’s budget-friendly and disposable, which makes cleanup a breeze.

You can use solid orange napkins for a traditional pumpkin look or try bold patterns or muted tones depending on your table theme.

The fold creates a soft, rounded shape that’s meant to resemble a plump pumpkin.

It’s also a fun pre-dinner activity for kids to help with—especially if you're folding a whole batch for guests.

Whether you’re hosting or just bringing a bit of seasonal flair to a potluck table, this fold takes just a minute to master and instantly makes your setup feel festive.

Follow the easy step by step instructions below to learn how to make a pumpkin napkin with nothing more than a napkin.

Materials Needed

1 square paper napkin (any color you like - e.g. orange, red, blue, patterned. It's up to you!)

Instructions

Step 1: Open out your napkin. Typically, paper napkins come folded into quarters. Start with the color you want on the outside facing up and arrange your napkin to sit like a diamond. You should already have 2 creases running through your napkin as shown.

Step 2: Fold the bottom point up to meet the top point.

Step 3: Unfold previous step.

Step 4: Fold the left point to meet the right point.

Step 5: Unfold previous step.

Step 6: Flip your napkin over from left to right (make sure it still sits like a diamond shape).

Steps 1 to 6 for folding pumpkin shaped napkins.

Step 7: Hold both the left and right points as shown and gently push in the centre where all the creases meet.

Then bring the corners inward and toward the bottom point. You will find the napkin starts to collapse on itself to form a square.

Step 8: Making sure the open edge is towards you, fold the upper left flap to the right. You will now have 1 flap on the left and 3 on the right.

Step 9: Fold the same flap back towards the left but this time so it’s top edge meets the centre crease.

Step 10: Fold the bottom right edge of the top flap to meet the middle.

Step 11: Fold the top flap back to the left.

Steps 7 to 11 for folding pumpkin shaped napkins.
