Materials Needed

  • 1 square sheet of origami paper

Small Sanbo Box6 inches x 6 inches (15 cm x 15 cm)4 inches x 1.5 inches (11 cm x 4 cm)
Large Sanbo Box10 inches x 10 inches (25 cm x 25 cm)7.5 inches x 2.5 inches (19 cm x 6.5 cm)

Instructions

Step 1: Start with the color you want the outside of your box to be facing down.

Step 2: Fold the paper in half from left to right.

Step 3: Unfold previous step.

Step 4: Fold the paper in half from top to bottom.

Step 5: Unfold previous step.

Step 6: Fold all 4 corners in to meet the middle point.

Step 7: Fold the bottom left edge up to meet the top right edge.

Step 8: Unfold previous step.

Steps 5 to 8 for folding an origami sanbo box.

Step 9: Fold the bottom right edge up to meet the top left edge.

Step 10: Unfold previous step.

Step 11: Arrange your paper to sit like a diamond shape.

First, re-crease along the horizontal and vertical creases. This will make the next part easier.

Then hold both the left and right edges as shown. Bring the left and right points down to meet the bottom point. You will find the paper will collapse on itself to form a square.

Step 12: Rotate your paper so the open edges are at the top.

Step 13: Open out the top layer as shown and then bring it down, flattening it to form a rectangle shape.

Step 14: Fold the right edge (top layer only) to the left, like turning a page in a book.

Step 15: Flip your paper over and repeat previous 2 steps.

Step 16: Fold both the left and right edges (top layer only) in to meet the middle crease.

Step 17: Flip your paper over and repeat previous step.

Step 18: Fold the top point down (top layer only) along the top edge of the flaps you folded in the previous step.

Step 19: Repeat previous step for the other side.

Step 20: Gently open out your box as shown. Adjust and re-crease edges as necessary. Completed sanbo box.
